Description
CDV – Brigadier General James Lowry Donaldson.
James Lowry Donaldson, was a career army officer from Maryland. When the war began, Donaldson was the chief quartermaster in the Department of New Mexico at Fort Union, and later ordered to be the chief QM for the Department of the Cumberland. He served as a most effective quartermaster through all the campaigns of Generals Grant, Sherman, and Thomas, receiving glowing endorsements from his commanders.
Donaldson received brevet commissions in both the Mexican and Civil Wars, colonel and brigadier general for the Atlanta campaign, and major general at the end of the war. He retired in 1869.
This seated view as a brigadier general, wearing a monocle, and I believe a flaw in the original negative in the area of his left hand.
Very good condition, taken by Morse’s Gallery of the Cumberland, Nashville, Tenn.
