1906 Real Photo Postcard of a Woman on Donkey who’s Owner claimed to be “BILLY THE KID”

$35.00

A faded Postcard with a woman in a very wide brimmed hat decorated with alarmingly large bows, riding a donkey.

What is so unique?

On the reverse at the top, iis written “both of them are very talented but the donkey’s tongue is amazing! Your Pal Chris.

The main message was to James – the woman met an “old coger who ‘claims to be BILLY THE KID, he introduced me to ‘the best 2 asses in S.C.”

Did she really meet Billy the Kid?  That’s the mystery. Silver City, New Mexico is considered the boyhood home of Billy the Kid, born Henry McCarty. Likely the “old Cogger”  joking with the young lady, who wasn’t bitting at claim of the famous gunman, certainly the use of the name cogger implied she suspected his bogus claim from the start.  A neat story regardless.

The image is clear but weak, rate very good.  Small sliver cut from the left top edge.
