Mid Indian Wars Era Ordnance Officer’s Trousers. Tailor made in medium blue wool. lined with blue striped cotton, with heavier cotton for pockets. Hems cut to drop some to the rear a bit, but straight legged. Two front slash pockets, no watch pocket, and a rear right hip pocket. Two piece adjustment straps held together by a medal buckle marked “L 1858 L,” the date likely to be a patent date. This leads me to think that a tailer in the frontier area or another remote post would have on hand older style buttons and buckles. That would lead me to the use of 6  bleached bone suspender buttons sewn in place; all original as the stitching is invisible under the cotton lining. And finally, there are 4 more bone buttons on the fly.

The ordnance officer stripes aline with the slach pocket openings, 1 3/8 wide.  I have included a photo showing the scarlet stripe with the artillery crimson color.

There are some areas of repairs; 3 small holes on left leg just below the crotch area. Sporadic mothing that really does not detract for the appearance. Some larger holes, one on the stripe right leg, and smaller one on the left. See photos as I photographed anything that is noticable.

No history with these.

Waist approximately 30-32 inches.

A scarce pair I would think.
