Description
This is a great example of the staff officers chapeau de bras worn for dress occasions. Sold by Henry V. Allien & Co., New York, and so embossed in gold on the white silk lining. The beaver fur is generally in fine condition with some wear to the fur along the front and rear sections, where it received the most wear. The black ostrich feathers are very good, with a bit of dryness as there are some dropping of feathers with excessive handling. The gilt bullion components are fine with light age toning.
The box is complete, and unmarked. Black paper covering the cardboard with wear to edgings. No major problems, no tears on corners of main box or lid.
Included also is the original rain cover which has two linen loops for slipping over the ends of the chapeau to hold it in place. It is in fine condition.
A nice dress chapeau.
