Description
This is an attractive card for the Putnam Phalanx, a well know historical military organization from Connecticut. The unit was organized in 1858, and adopted the uniform of the Continental Line from the Revolutionary days. Its members contained some of the elite of Hartford, and Connecticut’s foremost citizens such as Samuel Colt.
Their unit colors were presented by descendants of Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam. Although the Phalanx was chartered by the General Assembly of the State in 1877, the unit was not part of the Connecticut military establishment.
This card was made out for C.D. Fox, M.D. from Willimantic, Conn.
A large sized calling card; 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.
