Large Bore Plains Rifle With Enfield Lock.
This tiger striped full stock, double set trigger percussion rifle with 37 inch barrel, has a St. Louis made look about it, not a certainty, just an opinion. An interesting feature is the use of a British Enfield lockplate made by E.P. Bond / London. A full octagon barrel with buckhorn rear sight, brass blade front sight has a .50 caliber bore. All brass furniture.
The cheek piece is nicely fashioned, and the stock is well made using barrel wedges to hold fast the barrel. A simple and elegant plains rifle, likely made just after the Civil War years for travelers heading west.
