1860 Army Holster- Indian Wars Modified – SOLD

Like many holsters left over from the Civil War, this 1860 is modified to for wear on the 1876 Prairie Belt.

A number of these surplus holsters were called into service, with the increase of U.S. cavalry regiments, replacement needs of old and tired equipment, and a miserly Congress and Ordnance Department wanting to save money and use up the old war surplus.

The Davy, Newark, N.J. Contract holster has been arsenal modified; first by taking off the old belt loop and replacing it with a new one that is large enough to fit onto a bigger 1876 Prairie Belt.

The condition of the leather although having some typical crackling to the leather has the look of being un-issued. This is certainly one you want for the holster or cavalry collection.

Since I have another Indian Wars used holster up currently, I should clarify some descriptions.  I have called this holster an 1860 (named for the gun not the holster), because it was intended to be use with the Colt army revolver. I did not want the two confused for inventory purposes.  When I refer to a Model 1863, this is basically the same holster, but was made with less contours to fit the latter, and yet was made to accept other large frame army revolvers.  Not to confuse you, but the original M1860 holster had a contour that conformed to that of the Colt 1860 Army revolver only.)
