Rare 6″ Canary Yellow Jug – Portraits of Lord Nelson on both sides with riband, “England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty,” and on lower banners are the battles on either side for the NILE, and TRAFALGAR. Below the spout is the portrait of “Colonel Wardle.” The condition appears to be perfect, but as stated when sole in 2012 by Rex Stark, “It has has some excellent restoration – I can’t tell what was done – my restorer is very good.” I find myself in complete agreement, knowing little about restoration of these porcelain pieces. Gwyllym Lloyd Wardle (c. 1762–1833) was a Welsh Lt. Colonel in the dragoons under, and a member of parliament. It would take some research to tie this two men together
Forgive the photos as the color of the canary yellow is far more vibrant that shown. A gorgeous piece.
