Description
Civil War Import Non-Regulation Officer’s Sword. A fine example with the scarcer brass hilt and silver scabbard with brass ring mounts. The 32 inch blade has etched “IRON PROOF” and the “W. CLAUBERG / SOLINGEN trademark motif. The blade is gorgeous with each side exhibiting identical etched panels extending upward from the ricasso for 3.5 inches; left side panel with US and florals with the opposite side having the spread-winged federal eagle and florals, each panel approximately 7.5 inches in length. There are very few small areas of blemishing, most of which are hardly noticeable.
The hilt the typical pierced guard, forming a four branch guard, with a federal eagle at the lower basket area with the banner and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” thereon. The pommel his graduated levels, and simple backstrap. Triple wire wrapped shark skin grip is all original and in fine condition showing some wear. Traces of gilt remain in protected areas overall.
Reasonably priced in comparison to lesser embellished British imports.
