Militia Officer’s Sword Belt Complete With Gilt Eagle Belt Plate.
A fine Moroccan leather belt for likely an artillery officer, complete with the sword hangers, with their original swivels, and shoulder strap. The belt is in fine condition except for a section on the back side that has had some water damage, Buckles, and swivels are toned silver and iron (swivels).
The gilt eagle plate is equally in choice condition with nearly all of the plating remaining. Where the buckle is gilt, and an earlier pattern than the belt, i’ve owned others similar as many men went into different units over there militia service. The pattern as seen in the American Military Belt Plates by O’Donnell & Campbell on page 102, plate 153, referred to as a militia stock pattern used circa 1818 – 1835. 64 x 68mm. As a common plate, the cannon may not suggest artillery, but cannon and gilt finish certainly makes a good case for it.
Very hard to find a complete belt. Fine condition.
