J.R. Reynolds & Co. Order Form for Civil War Veterans Colorful Service Escutcheons

$55.00

J.R. Reynolds & Co. Order Form for Civil War Veterans Colorful Service Escutcheons. The Reynolds Co. used this blank order form to hand out, or sent to, veterans desiring to have their escutcheons made -custom made to be exact. You have most likely seen these in the Civil War show circuit or antiques shops.  This one was made for Edward D. Bean, who enlisted as a private in the 2nd New Hampshire Infantry in 1861.  Being from Haverhill, Mass. New Hampshire was very close. You can see from the photos how in-depth Bean was in wanting his escutcheon to cover every aspect of his time in service.  Listed are his dates of rank, list of battles and assignments, and more.  He made mention of being taken prisoner at the Battle of Gettysburg, and noted “escaped the same night.”

Bean became a policeman in the Town of Chelsea, Mass.

All of this information was done in ink and in the hand of Bean himself.

Fine condition.  Would be a great item to have with the original escutcheon.
