Description
A very clean document, an appointment for Corporal Thomas Cox, Co.B. 10th U.S. Infantry. The date of this appointment is September 17, 1897, and signed at Fort Reno, Oklahoma, Territory (just prior to statehood).
Signed by Colonel E.P. Pearson, and the 1st Lt. C.J.T. Clarke, Adjutant. Pearson began his long career in the army beginning during he Civil War with two brevet promotions to major and lt. col. for Chancellorsville, Va, and the Atlanta Campaign. Served and commanded several regiments in the west during the Indian Wars, promoted to Brig. Gen. during the Spanish American War in the US Vols. All I have on Clarke with a quick search is that he was a private in the 22nd Inf. band in 1871, later the band master in 1875. He changed regiments, went into the infantry and rose through the ranks.
Super clean.
