1863 Artillery Curb Bit & Headstall. The 1863 Artillery bit has nearly all the original brass plating, with the intertwined USA bosses. “U.S.” stamps on the inside of each cheek piece. “AGB” in oval inspector stamps left side cheek in the brass, and “J.M FRAZEE & CO / NEWARK N.J.” on the other side. “U.S. marked on the port. The inside tin plating is in fine condition.

The original headstall has the proper curb strap with match rounded brass buckle, and like all the other buckles, each is brass plated. There is a small weak section on the curb leather, but not in danger of breaking.  The leather headstall is complete with the leather being in fine condition. The billets have not been cut down; and have museum/collector inventory markings in white paint on several areas.  The headstall shows no evidence of ornaments used on this set. There are some carved markings in the crown piece, “T.P.C.” and a diamond.
