1872 Pattern Engineer’s Shoulder Knots – Later Brigadier General Garrett Lydecker, Jr.
General Lydecker’s name appears on a piece of paper on each of the knots, which are made by Shannon, Miller & Crane, New York. The gilt is toned some, but the major’s oak leaves and engineer castle (toned as well) are in fine condition with no apparent damage. Both the the Indian Wars era engineer buttons are present.
Garrett Lydecker, Jr. (1843 – 1914), Graduate of USMA Class of 1864. He left West Point as a 1st Lieutenant of engineers, and was assigned to General Meade’s staff during the later part of the war, receiving a brevet promotion to captain for the siege of Petersburg. He served 40 years in the army, working on river and harbor works; making surveys of the Great Lakes, and was an instructor at West Point.
Condition overall is very good-fine.
