Description

1885 Canteen and sling,

An excellent example being extremely clean, and free of dints, etc.  The canteen’s cork and chain is in fine condition with a little chipping at the bottom, not seen, and cork fits snugly in the canteen.
Some markings are crossed out on the back, these are most likely some arsenal or unit marking. The sling is the 1878 pattern haversack sling which became the canteen sling as well, by the Spanish American War era. The leather shows some use, but sound leather. It is a black bridle leather finish with color thinning to the russet. No inspection marks seen. Complete with both leather slides.
The color of the cover is brighter than original, the original being more a tan khaki.
Hard to improve on this one.
