Description
2 Dug Pieces of the 1815-25 Artillery Helmet Plate.
These two pieces are from the same type artillery plate, and from two separate plates. The are each common to the artillery plates seen in Campbell & O’Donnell’s book, AMERICAN MILITARY HEADGEAR INSIGNIA. from pages 236, and 237. Neither one of these pieces looks to identically match to any photographed.
The plate if whole, would be approximately 3 1/2 inches high x 2 1/2 inches.
Most likely a militia plate, made of stamped brass. The two raised ovals were meant to have Company number at the top, and Regiment number at the bottom. Each as a raised border around the border of this clipped corner plate.
Don’t know where it was dug.
From the Robert Borrell Artillery Collection.
