Private purchase officer’s high quality campaign hat with snowflake vents – the better most likely you’ll never see!.
Best Preserved Spanish War Campaign Hat On The Market!! I bought this out of a collection quite some years ago, and time to put up for sale.
This private purchase and mostly likely an officer’s campaign hat is just about flawless, other than some of the lightest wear to the sweatband, and that most likely from people having to try it on over the years. The 2 1/4 inch sweatband has a large “U.S.A.” stamped on it, and the band is so tight, I doubt a name was ever written on the inside. Snowflake vents on each side, piercing through the plush OD wool body. The crown has the original fore and aft crease, unaltered. The silk banding around the base of the hat is excellent. A 3 inch brim has 3 rows of stitching.
Amazingly, the brim was made with a the edges slightly curled upwards; the curly would eventually flatten with wear in the field, by handling and exposure to the elements.
The original sizing label is affixed, and reads, 6 3/4.
The only thing this hat lacks is the history to go with the best one of these you are likely to ever see.
I paid more for this many years ago.
