Description
British Made Enlisted Visor Gaberdine Cap, made in the British style, yet having U.S. insignia, buttons, and the back chinstrap (most likely purchased and worn by an early American airman in England. The only stamping is in the sweatband, “Real Roan Leather.” The body is a quality gaberdine, common to officer’s caps and uniforms. There is a large round stiffener inside the crown to give the cap shape (this may be an American addition).
The leather inside and out is in fine condition. Although I believe the hat was worn by an airman, it is not a crusher cap. The enlisted eagle insignia is unmarked, and could be either US or British made screw back.
There is some very minor mothing and tracking, and some stains on the back of the crown.
Scarce to find English made cap of this style purchased by enlisted ranks.
No size label, approximately 6 7/7 – 7.
