Cased First Prize Army Division Marksmanship Medal

$1,750.00

Bronzed copper medal, made at the U.S. Mint, (catalog No. MK.6). 59 medals were produced, of which 23 were this type.  Made from 1882 -1889.  The case was made at the Rock Island Arsenal.

The front side of the medal has a mounted cavalryman in dress uniform aiming his carbine, and the reverse side is a large wreath nearly encircling the perimeter leaving a large open space for presentation.  This medal was never issued, never had the mounting bar for wear on uniform.  The Moroccan leather case, I believe was made at Rock Island Arsenal, and is purple silk lined, and has silver metal furniture on the outside.

51mm diameter.

The medal is in excellent condition, and the case shows light wear and fading of color on top.

A rare medal, in about the best condition that one could hope for.
