CDV – Colonel Ambrose Burnside 1st Rhode Island Infantry.

This image published by Anthony, from the original negative by Brady, shows Colonel Burnside of the 1st Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry.  He is wearing the famous “Burnside Blouse” configured in the double breasted fashion for a field and staff officer.

Burnside had various commands during the Civil War, the most notable being as commander of the Army of the Potomac.

Prior to the Civil War, Burnside devoted a good amount of time to manufacture rifles and carbines, that would eventually bear his name. The Burnside carbine was used extensively during the war by cavalry units, both federal and state units.

He was also the 30th Rhode Island governor, taking office in 1866.

In very good condition.
