Description
CDV – Signed on the reverse, “Martin Burke / Bvt Brig. Genl U.S. Army.” Brevet Brigadier General Martin Burke. Entered the U.S. Army in 1820 as a 2nd Lt. in the 8th U.S. Infantry. Transferred to the 3rd Artillery in 1823. He saw service in the Mexican War, and was lt.col. of the 3rd U.S. Artillery during the Civil War, retiring in 1863. Entered service from Maryland.
