Civil War Enlisted Privates Brass Shoulder Scales. Original pair, having seen some use, with old repairs to the shoulder slides for mounting on uniform. Some dings and scuffing overall, but nice representatives.
These scales were worn only during full dress occasions, including parades, inspections, etc. An interesting note concerning these was a fact that then Capt. Anson Mills of the 18th Infantry, was nearly brought up on charges for having his men throw these scales into latrines, or ditches, so they wouldn’t take up precious space in the company wagons while on campaign.
