Civil War Era Signal Officer’s Forage Cap Bullion Insignia

Civil War Era Signal Officer’s Forage Cap Bullion Insignia. This is another scarce insignia made with gold and silver bullion thread on black velvet. The signal flags have red silk centers with one embellished with two narrow lines of silver bullion. The stars and US are in silver as well, finished with a fine twist of gilt wire sewn to the perimeter.

the velvet wraps around a piece of stiff paper and treaded in a criss-cross method to hole it in place. Some stress lines on the silk.
