Description
Civil War Era – U.S. Army Leather Neck Stock.
Primarily used to maintain good posture in formations lending to a better military posture. Some speculate that the leather would protect a soldier from saber slashes, but hard to believe that would hold up in practical application.
Worn from a much earlier period in history to about the 1870 period for American army usage. The Marines used these as well, thus comes the term, “Leathernecks.”
An unissued piece, with the bridle leather coating crackled and some chipping occurring.
Over all a displayable piece, with some restoration.
