Model 1850 Schuyler, Hartley and Graham Foot officer’s sword with two branch guard

$875.00

Model 1850 Schuyler, Hartley and Graham Foot officer’s sword with two branch guard. At first not as noticeable is the use of a double branch guard, usually found only on field grade officer’s models (with a “US” in the branch as well). This being an import sword, one might espect some slight variations.

Sold by Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, New York as etched on the ricasso, and the 32 inch blade has the rabbit “E.P.” hallmark stamped on the other side. The finish on the blade is a blend of the bright and frosty etching with wear, and some heavy blemishing and some pitting toward the tip. I believe if one choose to polish this blemishing out, would improve the blade a great deal. As it is,  still a respectable blade.

The brass furniture retains overall a good amount of gilt mixed with wear and patina. The original red wool washer is still in place. The sharkskin grip has a split at the seem, but holding firmly by the triple wrapped wire. The scabbard shows age with crazing and chipping in some areas, and some separating of stitching between the upper mounts.  Upper mount loose.

A very good representative and quite displayable.  Nice variantion.
