New York State Additional Pay Document for a War of 1812 Veteran. This document dated 30 December, 1853, is basically a claim for additional money to be paid to Garret Volk, a Springfield, Massachusetts resident who enlisted as a private in Colonels Van Buren and Ward of the New York militia. Volk had served three months in September of 1812, and again in September of 1814. Garret made this form document, listing all the clothing and equipments that he had furnished at his own expense. The document also records the Garret had received 80 acres land warrant from the US Government. The reverse of the document is filled in and signed by the Commissioner of Deeds for the State, David Randell.
The list of items Garret provided for himself seem rather large considering he served only a total of 6 months, both times in September.
Printed on legal size blue stock, with some small separations at folds near the edges, with two larger repaired with acid free tape.
