Description

John F. Guilfoyle, graduated from the USMA Class of 1877, began his career with the 9th U.S. Cavalry. In 1901, with the promotion to major, Guilfoyle was transferred to the 12th Cavalry. Lt.Col. of the 7th Cavalry, Colonel of his old 9th in 1911 to 1915.  He retired in 1917 after 40 years of service; a good deal of that on the Plains, the Southwest, Philippines, etc.

This image was taken at Junction City, Kansas, as a colonel of the 9th Cavalry, in his evening dress uniform. The photographer is PENNELL’s STUDIO.
