Scarce Directory of the Officers and Privates- 14th Regiment Heavy Artillery- Massachusetts Volunteers 1862. This Directory records all the original members of the 14th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, which was reorganized in the summer of 1861, but were reorganized and made the 1st Regiment Heavy Artillery.
This list is complete with the names of the soldiers in each company, as well as those discharged, died or deserted before going to print around July of 1861.
Soft covers, 32 pages.
The front cover is signed by Warren P. Searles, a resident of Lawrence, Mass who enlisted into Co. C., 40th Mass Infantry, he was taken prisoner at Drury’s Bluff on May 14, 1864, and later listed as died of that date. The only connection with this copy might be either a relation or family friend, by the name of Caleb S. Searle, of Lawrence, a 42 year old farmer, listed in Co. F, enlisting on July 15, 1861. Warren came down from Maine several years prior to the Civil War to Lawrence. This seems to be the probable connection.
A scarce book, as none were found for sale, and those listed were in collection institutions.
