Description

WWII Sailor Art – “Pete The Tramp” USS Peterson DE-152.

This lot includes original sailor art done on an aluminum access panel for machinery, etc.,that measures 5.5 inches. The other side is painted Navy blue gray. This rendition of “Pete The Tramp,” the personification of the USS Peterson DE-152, is a bit different than that seen in the 1987 Reunion booklet.

This “Pete” was created using a punch pattern.

The reunion booklet, printed in 1987, was given out at the Reno Hilton Hotel, in Nevada. It is a nine page, illustrated history, and statistics work for the USS Peterson.

Finally, the reunion name tag of FRED PRECHT, a crewman on the Peterson.  I have not found him in searches, but obviously with the ship featured on the tag, there is no doubt. I believe he is from the 1943 – 1946 USCG era, not the USN 1952 – 1965 era. A yellow tag adhered to the front of the panel reads, “this is from the Petterson boat DE Dad was on World War II.”

The Peterson was commissioned on September 29, 1943, and after shakedown cruise sailed from New York to Casablanca, French Morocco, and had more duty in the North Atlantic, convoying ships to Northern Europe.

A neat, WWII Coast Guard lot.
