Description
A miniature chest of tea (cardboard) issued by the Oriental Tea Co. Boston. Made in 1873 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, at Griffin’s Wharf in 1773.
The box measures 2 3/8″ h. x 2 1/8″ w x 2 5/8″ d. A printed paper replicates a rattan chest. An inner section slides out exposing the Formosa Tea within.
Inside is a small printed thin card stock at reads, “Boston, Dec.16, 1873. You are invited to drink this tea at your home to-night, in commemoration of the glorious we celebrate. Please preserve the chest and present it in person, or through your descendants, at the next Centennial Anniversary of the day. ”
Some of the seams are loose, and general wear and scuffing to outer paper surface, with some minor paper lose. Half the original tea remains.
