Description
Nicely posed for this cabinet photo is 2nd Lieutenant George Russell Cecil, 13th U.S. Infantry.
The regiment was garrisoned on the plains to 1877 and then transferred to the Department of the South, in Florida. in 1880 through to 1890s, the 13th returned to the west, and saw more campaigning against the Apache, and service in Oklahoma, Terr. Cecil served as regimental adjutant from 1887 to 1890, and by then having been promoted to 1st Lt.
Promoted to captain in 1895, in a six years he would be achieve the rank of major, and shortly after made Lt.Col. of Volunteers during the Philippine Insurrection. in 1902 he served as military attache to the US Legation in Berne, Switzerland, and then transferred to the 8th Infantry as a major.
In the years following, he served at many posts, in several regiments and other assignments, receiving his promotion to Colonel and then retired in 1913.
