Description
This ashtray was made from a German 88 shell, and fashioned into a souvenir for a member of the 88th Infantry Division, 339th FA Bn, Battery “A” named to “George W. Axelby” (with ASN). The unit and named is electric pin engraved on the 88th SSI insignia, integral to the shell. Around the base of the shell are the place names where this unit had served during the Italian campaign in WWII. A .50 caliber cartridge is mounted within the center of the ashtray, and sections of rifle shell casings are used for cigarette rests.
The ashtray stands approximately 5 3/4 inches.
Condition is fine.
