Description
Adam Slemmer – Defense of Fort Pickens Medal, by F. MULLER. 87mm copper/bronze in original case, dated 1861.
Bust of Adam J. Slemmer, 1861, with THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, NEW YORK, HONORS THE DEFENDERS OF FORT PICKENS / FAR OFF BUT FAITHFUL.
Captain Slemmer held Fort Pickens in Pensacola Harbor, Florida, against Confederate attack until the fort was reenforced in April of 1861, and held by federal forces for the remainder of the war.
The medal is in excellent condition in its original case. The case has some issues, with center section holding medal loose from main case.
