The image has a period ink ID “Capt. Whiley.” Circa 1860’s.
Richard Whiley entered U.S. service from New York as a lieutenant of artillery and engineers, on 19 December, 1796, 1st artillery & engineers, May of 1798; artillery in April of 1802; captain 15 November, 1803; and resigned his commission 30 June, 1811.
