Description
M1881 Colt SAA & Schofield Revolver Holster – 5th Type. This version has the very wide loop that replaced a narrower pattern, this one needing to adapt to the wide Mills patent web ammunition belts that were being issued in the Spanish American War era and earlier.
Made at Rock Island Arsenal and stamped on the flap, along with an inspector mark. A “2” is marked in two places on the flap and my be for the 2nd Cavalry, Artillery, etc.? The placement of the original loop can be seen by the original holes from the inside and one on the back. The US in over shows some wear, and overall the leather has some crackling; more on the back of the belt loop. The plug is present.
A nice holster and well maintained.
