WWII U.S. Army Mountain Troops Piton Hammer -“T.E.S. 1944.”

The hammer is marked on the flat end side, “”U.S. 1944/ T.E.S.”  The hammer head and brackets and the wood surrounding are painted dark green. Hammer head is 4.5 inches.  Entire length is 10 inches.  The wood handle is natural wood finished, and has a hole for wrist strap.

Approximately 60-70% of the original paint remains.

I was told that Rangers used these at Point de Hoc for use with pitons.
