Description
Identified Spanish American War Officer’s Pistol / Sword Belt.
I Don’t see these much, a combination of cartridge and sword belt. The identification on the leather is weak, but can be made out using the tag to refer to. The nature of the russet leather is dry, and the ink has faded. The belt is displayable, best so off uniform mannequin. Complete in every way.
The tag reads, “Duncan C. Lee, Lieutenant 203 NY Vol. Inf. August 30, 1898.” I trust the identification complete, having come from a trusted dealer and friend, Walter Budd.
Regardless, of the identification, this is a scarce belt, and worth in any Spanish American War collection. The 203rd New York was called into Federal service, but did not make it to Cuba.
Overall in very good condition, needing some treatment needing on the back side of the leather. Sounds bad, but no so.
