Description

CDV – KIA Lieutenant John B. Thompson, 19th Massachusetts Infantry.

John B. Thompson from Lawrence, Ma. was a 20 year old paper maker who enlisted as a private on August 1st, 1861, into Co. F.  He was promoted to corporal, sergeant, 2nd lieutenant, and1st lieutenant by the date of July 20, 1863 (assigned to Co. G.). He was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Va. on December 13, 1862, and was killed in action during the Battle of Cold Harbor, Va. in June of 1864.

A nice view Thompson holding his slouch hat with only the “19” on the front of the hat. His sword appears to be a non-regulation type with metal scabbard.

Photographed by Potter & Reed, Lawrence, Ma.

Very good condition.  Trimmed at the bottom cutting of a pencil signature or identification by another.
