Civil War Era US Marine Officer’s Forage Cap Bullion Insignia

Civil War Era US Marine Officer’s Forage Cap Bullion Insignia. A true original piece in gilt bullion with a silver bullion “M” as was regulation. I’ve only seen one in a book, and that insignia has an applied silver letter at the center. This insignia’s red ground has not been cut down before placement on the forage cap. The red wool was trimmed down very close to the bullion.  The back side is not covered and the stitching remains exposed.
