Lt. General Stanley H. Ford – Balance of Archive – Photos- Paper, Medals, More.  This lot of material contains medals, and badges not seen in the photos submitted to the Military Forum in 2012. in the order as they appear in the photo:

  • USWV Member’s badge.
  • Spanish War Campaign Medal No, 26277.
  • Verdun Medal.
  • Army of Occupation, late issue, for WWI.
  • New York State Service in WWI, No. 85501.
  • American Defense Medal.
  • Military Order of the World War, No. 960.
  • Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S.  -BB&B STERLING (WITH CERTIFICATE)

There are 50 plus photos beginning with the turn of the century Philippines, WWI, interwars up to 1940 and Ford’s command of the 2nd Army. Condition is generally very good, with some others with folds, tears….see photo section.

  • Small pamphlet entitled 102nd Yesterday To-Day And To-Morrow, All Over France With The 102nd Ammunition Train.
  • Assortment of membership cards, many signed by Ford.
  • Narrow license plate for Lt.General.  Red paint is badly chipping away.  5 x 13 inches.
  • Second Army Maneuvers  August 1949  Wisconsin Area.  49 pages, profusely illustrated, several of Ford.
  • 2 large binders -Volumes 1 & 2 of Speeches. Book 1 from Oct. 6, 1936 to June 9, 1937. Speeches made to many Omaha organizations, and businesses; Book 2 from August 25, 1937 to October 26, 1938, Very similar with more speeches made in Omaha and throughout Nebraska.  Both combined are 2 inches thick.
  • Lectures and Addresses  Years  1928 – 1933.  See photo of contents. This contains a few letters from various business, etc. About 3/4 inch thick.
  • Digest World Events – Years 1927-1928 etc.. See photo of cover for contents. Has some addition loose inserts. 1 inch thick +.
  • Addresses to various associations in the Chicago area. 2 inches thick.    All of the above bound Lectures and Addresses do contain some interesting military information, Views on the Army, Overseas activities, and more.
  • Vellum diploma from Ohio State University, June 1898.  with a degree of Bachelor of Philosophy. Signed by President and President of the Board of Trustees, as well as the Secretary, Board of Trustees.  16 x 19 inches overall, with a fold at bottom. All complete and in fine condition.
  • Military Intelligence Reserve Society, Second Corps Area, dated Nov. of 1930, signatures of Society president and secretary. And has a small member card, signed by Ford, and treasurer, dated 1938.
  • Letter from Allied World War Veterans Council, awarding Ford Honorary Councilor, dated March 1940,  Signed by CIC, and Adjt.  Some staining at bottom of paper.
  • Diploma for Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, for MGen. Ford, dated Oct. 1938.  Signed by both president and Secretary, both Army officers.  Also has a forwarding letter in December of the same year signed by the Sec. MGen H.L. Gilchrist.
  • Typed letter from MGen. A.C. Smith, Chief Military Historian, on officer letterhead, and comes with Gen. Ford’s copy letter hand written. Dated July of 1954.
  • Certificate for the National Security League with original mailing tube.  Dated April, 1925.  Some repairs to paper with acid free tape.
  • Printed Obituary for Gen. Ford, several pages,.
  • Diplomatic Passport, issued in October of 1930, as Brigadier General, signed by Ford and Sec. of State, Henry L. Stimson. Has photo stamped and signed again by Ford, several entries to France, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg,  Germany (1931), Calais then to Britain, goes to 1932.  Fine condition.

 

Stanley Hamer Ford (1877 – 1961).  Born Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio University in 1898, and was commissioned as an Infantry 2nd Lieutenant and saw service in both Cuba, and the Philippines during the Spanish American War. During WWI he served as Assistant Chief of Staff of the 84th Division, and Chief of Staff for MG John O’Ryan of the 27th Division, there receiving the DSM.  After the war, Gen. Ford continued his service as commander of the 16th U.S. Infantry from 1924 to 1926, and Asst. Chief of Staff  of the Army’s Intelligence Division from 1927 to 1930.  He was promoted to brigadier general in 1930, and major general in 1936, and Lt. General in 1939 with command assignments of the 1st Infantry Division, VII Corps, the Dept. of the Philippines, and Second Army, where he oversaw the execution of a large scale maneuvers and exercises by active Army & National Guard troops preparing for readiness in anticipation of WWII.  During the early part of WWII, Gen. Ford assisted John F. O’Ryan as the New York State Civil Defense Director. General Ford died at Carlisle Barracks while en route to John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural.
