1816 Pattern “US” Marked & Modified Socket Bayonet

1816 Pattern “US” Marked & Modified Socket Bayonet. This blade measures almost 16 inches as the tip is worn slightly.  The fuller runs 8.5 inches from the point.  The blade width is 7/8 inch, with the “US” being stamped very low on the blade. Socket is 3 inches.  The modification is found where the socket bridge has been removed, no doubt to fit a militia musket of similar bore size.  There is a stamp on the left side of the shank that looks like “PO.” Vise marks appear on both sides of the shank, but look to be done in the period of manufacture or sometime not long after.

Nice even patina overall.
