Description
A rare set of knot and two piece dress buckle for a doctor in the PHS.
These knots and buckle came out very early in the 20th Century. The material for the Public Health Service in this period is rather scarce and not easy to get information in regards to the regulations. It is in this period that the PHS has just out of the old Marine Hospital Service; a medical branch that fell under the control of the Navy.
This knots are in very nice condition, with finely crafted knots of gold silk threaded cording, and having the look from a distance as if pearls were used to embellish these insignia. Gold bullion is used for the PHS insignia. The black wool is general very good with some areas of mothing; the underside of one knot shows a great deal of moth damage, but still retains that super look and excellent for display.
The buckle still has most of the original gilt. There was no history with this set. First like it in over thirty five years of dealing.
Trade mark for Horstmann stamped on the brass slides.
