Description
This unidentified 2nd Lieutenant of 3rd U.S. Artillery had this ambrotype taken sometime in the 1850’s wearing his dress uniform, Most visually noticed is his regulation 1851 pattern shako with all the appropriate insignia. His epaulets have the 3rd Artillery insignia, and no rank bars showing establishing his rank at 2nd Lt.
The image is clear, and will display and photograph well. There is some lifting to the emulsion but only visible from different angles other than straight on. Some age spotting on mat.
A leatherette case show wear; broken at the hinge, scuffing, chipping to leather.
A scarce image showing a great view of this U.S. Army headgear.
