1827 Silk Broadside From Maine – A Day of Public Thanksgiving And Praise By E. Lincoln, Governor

$195.00

1827 Silk Broadside From Maine – A Day of Public Thanksgiving And Praise By E. Lincoln, Governor (1788 – 1829).  It appears that the 1827 dated broadside was framed during the Civil War era, by the look of the patriotic die cuts.  Overall size in the original frame is 10.5 x 8.5 inches approximate.  There is an old note written on the back, but as the new typed label states it is impossible to read without some special process.  The silk is in fine condition.  A nice little broadside with some historic value.

The governor at this time was Enoch Lincoln (a descendant of Samual Lincoln of Hingham, Mass, and distantly related to Abraham Lincoln).  Enoch Lincoln was a U.S. Representative from Mass, then Maine (after statehood in 1820), Harvard Grad, and 6th Governor of Maine.  His brother was also a governor, Levi Lincoln, the 13th to hold that office.
