Description
This fine conditioned Collins & Co. foot officer’s sword is dated on the ricasso 1862, and has a gorgeous blade with nearly all the original finest remaining. Each side of the blade has a simple yet elegant pattern using acanthus leaf on vine, and some geometric design at the base of the blade above the ricasso. The florals are interrupted by a “US” on one side and a panoply of arms on the other.
The hilt and all other furniture also retain overall 90 percent plus original gilt.
The sharkskin grip even has most of the black finish, along with a tight wrapped twisted grip wire.
A full leather scabbard has a few areas of crackling, and stress lines; stitching is all tight; scuffing to the surface leather is minimal.
Completing this sword is the sword knot in very good condition, lacking only the bullion wire on the upper section of the knot, exposing the underlaying cotton base.
A great sword, with a blade that will be very near impossible to improve upon.
