1885 Carbine Sling & Snap Swivel. Issued in the later part of the Indian Wars, the carbine slings were used well into the Cuba, and Philippine conflicts by the U.S. cavalry. A thinner sling than its Civil War predecessor, but still a functioning accoutrement used for over 20 years.
This black bridle leather sling is full size, and having brass tip and buckle. Leather show crackling overall, but leather supple. A few areas of chipping, but small. The underside of the leather where the buckle is held is marked, but hard to made out, and I believe is a unit marking, what looks like a “USCV 64.”
The iron sling swivel shows a good deal of pitting, left to the elements for a long time, perhaps left in a barn, etc. with the spring on the swivel weak.
A good displayable example at a great price.
