Description
1908-10 Pennant for USS Maryland (ARC-8), from the period when the ship was cruising the Pacific. The red wool pennant is 29 inches long, 11 inches at the widest, and has applied date and lettering in black and pale gold color wool. All sewn construction. Between the dates is a black sphere, similar to one seen on a gunnery medal listed currently on site from the identical period. I believe this insignia must represent a division within the fleet, or perhaps for gunnery excellence ?
Condition is excellent.
The USS Maryland was a Pennsylvania class armored cruiser launched in 1905, and decommissioned in 1922.
