Description
25th U.S. Infantry Officer’s Collar Insignia, worn my Robert H. Westcott, USA. These came from the small lot of insignia and a bronze prize medal awarded to him in 1908 for sale on this site. The lot was small, but not significant enough to leave these with the grouping. The other had the shooting badge, as the main focus.
This is the 1905 pattern service dress insignia that would have been worn on the 1895/1912 pattern undress coat. They are mismatched, as one has the jeweler “Tiffany” type locking catch. Obviously this officer had several pair so it is easy to mix them up, even in the period of use.
the 25th Infantry was still a segregated unit of all black NCOs and privates, with predominately all white officers and a few black officers in this period.
Most of the original gilt remaining.
Fine condition.
