6 USS Dewey (YFD-7) – Floating Dry Dock – Large Cabinet Photos With White Fleet Ships

$350.00

USS Dewey (YFD-7) – Floating Dry Dock Large Cabinet Photos With White Fleet Ships. This is a lot of 6 cabinet photos, by an unknown photographer. They measure full size, 11×14 inches on gray mounts, image size 7×9 inches. The first three show the USS Dewey, and a two-stacker cruiser (?) that I have not identified. These three, like all of the images were taken off Solomons, Maryland for her shakedown before departing for Subic Bay, Philippines. See article in photo section for more info on Dewey.

The last three are Dewey, and the USS Colorado (ACR-7), during the shakedown off the Solomon Island, Md. beginning on June 23-24, 1905. This would most likely be the same time for the unknown ship above. Colorado had a feature that stood out, being the air-intake stack just behind and above the bridge. Research from there, lead to the positive ID to Colorado.

An important lot of photos showing the functioning of a early floating dry dock, with or without ships in dock. USS Dewey would remain in the Philippines until scuttled by the American forces before the Japanese took possession of the Islands in 1942.

Fine condition. Some of the photos are numbered in the negatives, not all are numbered, but the largest being “10.”
