Description
This lot of buttons came from a uniform lot for a 9th U.S. Cavalry officer Charles Josiah Stevens, USMA Class of 1877. I held these back simply forgetting I had them, and until recently were buried away.
In the small box (2.5 x 6″) with the HENRY V. ALLIEN & CO. label, which most likely held shoulder straps, is a group of coat and cuff buttons by these makers:
- 4 D. Evans coat buttons
- 6 D. Evans cuff
- 2 S. & J. .London coat
- 1 S. & J. , London cuff
- 1 Brooks Bros coat
- 3 Horstmann Bros & Co. cuff
All are in very good to fine + condition. The London made button are two piece construction. There are also included a set of buttons rings.
The box is in good condition with one side panel on the lid missing, with other end separated, but hanging from top panel. Stevens has a good record, Indian Wars service, went up San Juan Hill with the 9th.
Priced out for the button value alone.
